Focus on True nature and the Future of cocoa farming

Together with chefs and farmers, Cacao Barry is at the heart of the fight to ensure our cacao is committed to support environmentally friendly farms that are prioritizing land sustainability. We want nature to do what it has done for millions of years: thrive.

Thus, we firmly believe that agroforestry is the way foward.

Agroforestry involves integrating native trees into cacao farms, yielding numerous advantages through a combination of cacao trees and other fruit or forest trees. It helps increase cocoa trees lifespan while preserving the integrity of the land.

Additionally, the agroforestry offers essential shade to our cherished cacao trees, improves the soil quality (physical quality allowing more water circulation with the roots of the trees), aids in erosion control, and fosters increased biodiversity on the farm. Simultaneously, it has the potential to augment and diversify farmers' income, reducing their reliance on cacao as their main source of livelihood. Moreover, agroforestry assists in carbon capture, contributing to mitigate climate change.

Effective implementation hinges on adapting the approach to the unique conditions of each locality. To achieve this, we collaborate with Cocoa Horizons, leveraging their expertise. We work closely with cacao farmers, starting with a comprehensive farm diagnosis, followed by extensive support that includes training, technical guidance, and the provision of high-quality seedlings. We continuously monitor progress and extend support whenever necessary.
